The Fundamental Flaws of Prokaryote Essay Example

The Fundamental Flaws of Prokaryote Essay To answer the question at hand. First, we must consider the terms useful, valid and flawed, in a scientific sense. For a theory to be valid in science it must be based on sound research techniques and reasoning; peer review determines if a theory is to be accepted as valid. For a theory to be useful, it must be able to be implemented to aid understanding or further research. If a theory is flawed, it is essentially wrong. Secondly, we must acknowledge that as every area of science, taxonomy should be viewed as an ever-changing field. Taxonomy describes and groups organisms based on phenetic and phylogenic similarity, i.e., genetic or morphological homology. These two approaches mean it is possible to assemble organisms into species, and also to determine their evolutionary relationships with other species by comparing structural similarities such as cell shape, cell wall type, anaerobic or aerobic respiration and enzymes. Phylogenically RNA and DNA sequences are considered; this in fact led to the replacement of Whittaker’s 5 Kingdom classification system. It is of paramount importance as taxonomy is an immensely useful tool for conserving and sustaining species, but also for combating pathogenic species using knowledge of cellular structure and cell walls to prescribe antibiotics, or other forms of treatment. It is important in research into development of new medicines, and to understand new diseases, it allows us to understand evolutionary relationships and gives a better insight into how the world may have started, essentially taxonomy is a science which organises species, and by using Latin it makes the science an internationally accessible one. The concept of prokaryotes in taxonomy is an old one and therefore has become essentially redundant as new molecular techniques have produced data that shows weakness in its classificat
